Why Humidity Matters
Epoxy cures through a chemical reaction, not evaporation, but the concrete underneath is porous and holds moisture. In humid conditions, that moisture can migrate up through the slab during cure and blister a coating that wasn't primed for it.
Slab Moisture vs Air Humidity
Air humidity affects fast-curing polyaspartic topcoats more than epoxy basecoats. Slab moisture — measured with an RH probe or calcium chloride test — is the bigger risk for a coating peeling months later.
What We Do About It in Huntsville
- Moisture test slabs on grade, especially basements and older garages
- Use moisture-mitigating primers when readings exceed system limits
- Schedule polyaspartic topcoats around dew point and morning humidity
- Run dehumidification in sealed spaces during longer cures
When to Wait for a Better Window
For interior installs we work year-round. For outdoor patios or open garages during a rainy stretch, we may postpone a day to keep the topcoat inside its published humidity window.
